Things That Are Impossible With God

“Jesus is not God!” declares a Unitarian teacher not knowing that he has revised the ancient heretical teaching of one known heresiarch namely Arius, a former bishop of Alexandria, Egypt who taught that Jesus Christ was a lesser God.

In fairness, Arius declared Jesus was God but not equal in nature with His Father.

The former was Mighty while the latter was Almighty.

He was eventually declared as a heretic and banished for a time from the city of Nicea to prevent further disunity of the Roman empire.

There are many followers of Arius’ teachings believing Jesus was an inferior God.

A number of them even went to the point of teaching that He was a man not God for it is impossible for God to choose becoming human.

Is this true?

They have cited a couple of verse in the Old Testament which seems to drive their point.

The text in the books of Hosea 11:9 and Numbers 23:19 does not tell us the impossibility for God to become human since there is nothing that will be impossible for Him.

He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” – Matthew 17:20, ESV

For nothing will be impossible with God.” – Luke 1:37, ESV

And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” – Mark 9:23, ESV

However, the Lord was telling about the contrast between the attributes of man exercising violent anger, lying tongue, and an unstable mind against His divine attribute of possessing loving compassion, eternal truth, and constant faithful promises.

Notice that the passage mentions about some attributes of man concerning anger, lying, and fickle mindedness (changing of mind). It is easy to get these texts out of context to become pretexts for error without understanding the whole background.

Their interpretation will surely break apart once they study these passages of John and Paul in the Greek manuscripts literally stating,

“And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” – 1 Timothy 3:16, KJV

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.- John 1:1

I agree! There are things that are impossible for God to do.

It is impossible for Him to be unloving, to lie, to be fickle minded, and not fulfill His promises. This is not possible for it is impossible for a holy God to contradict His holy attribute and will.

If nothing will be impossible with God then surely everything will be possible for those who believes in Him to accomplish His holy will.
